From Seasonal Administrative Assistant to HR Manager

Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Gaithersburg, MD, Diana Contreras has called Frederick home since 2020. Her journey with DeLeon & Stang began nearly 12 years ago, when she joined the firm as a Seasonal Administrative Assistant during tax season. That first role gave her an inside look at how the firm operates – and set the stage for a successful career within the firm.

Starting a Career in Human Resources

After starting on the admin team, Diana moved into Human Resources, first as an HR assistant before being promoted to HR Manager.

Today, she leads the HR department, working closely with partners and department leaders to oversee talent management across the firm.

“Starting in admin gave me a great overview of how the firm operates,” she explains. I saw firsthand how every role plays a part in keeping things running smoothly and that helped shape my approach to HR.”

Throughout her career, Diana has had strong support from the firm. Early on, DeLeon & Stang encouraged her to pursue her aPHR certification, and she’s now working toward her PHR with the firm’s backing.

Leading Talent Management and Staff Development

For the past five years, she’s partnered with HR consultant Jeremy Wortman on talent management initiatives and long-term strategic planning.

“Having the opportunity to work with Jeremy has been instrumental in my growth as an HR professional,” Diana shares.

Among her proudest achievements is co-leading the development of a 5-year Talent ManagementPlan with D&S leadership and Jeremy Wortman. This initiative strengthened the firm’s culture, improved hiring processes, and created new opportunities for staff development.

She’s also proud to have expanded the HR department by mentoring Maggie Sideras. Maggie began as an HR intern and is now an HR Assistant and valued member of the team.

While Diana hasn’t pursued any external awards, the recognition she values most comes from contributing to DeLeon & Stang’s people and culture every day.

“Building an environment where employees can grow and thrive is the most rewarding part of my work, she says.”

Supporting Internal Growth

Looking ahead, Diana’s excited to continue growing within the firm and supporting D&S’s strategic goals for years to come.

“My focus is on helping our staff develop and welcoming new hires who align with our culture and values,” she says. “It’s about making sure our people have the resources they need to succeed – because when they succeed, the firm succeeds.”
