Allen DeLeon, Founding Partner, Testifies in Maryland Senate in Support of a Commission on Tax Policy, Reform and Fairness

Allen DeLeon, founding partner of CPA/Business Advisory Firm DeLeon & Stang testified on January 29 at the Maryland General Assembly in support of an amendment to SB0223 to establish a Commission on Tax Policy, Reform, and Fairness in the state.DeLeon also requested that the commission include a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), who is a tax professional licensed and regulated by the state of Maryland. The MACPA tax expert would “collaborate with commission members to effectively analyze and evaluate proposals to improve existing tax rules and tax systems. They would additionally contribute technical expertise and objective analysis based on widely-accepted guiding principles of good tax policy.”Sponsors of the bill include Maryland Senators Feldman, Carozza, Klausmeier, Patterson, Peters, Rosapepe, Serafini, Washington, and Young. The bill would require the commission to submit a final report to the governor and general assembly by December 1, 2021.DeLeon—whose firm has provided accounting services in the state for more than 35 years—said, "This commission is necessary to promote economic development and a business-friendly environment in Maryland, ensure fairness in the revenue structure and update the Maryland tax code to reflect today’s economy.”
