2022 DMV Area Tax Relief and Rebates

Tax laws change on the federal and state level each year. These changes may include tax reform and relief measures. Here are the current active changes for FY22 Virginia, DC & Maryland taxes.

Virginia

State Sales Tax on Groceries

Under the enacted state budget,  HB 30, the state’s 1.5 percent sales tax on groceries will be eliminated beginning January 1, 2023. A 1 percent local sales tax on groceries remains in effect. 

State Rebate Checks 

The fiscal year 2023 state budget,  HB 30, includes a provision that authorizes a tax rebate of up to $250 for individual filers and up to $500 for joint filers, provided the filers had a tax liability of at least that amount in 2021. 

Washington DC 

There are currently no active changes to tax laws for Washington DC. 

Maryland 

There are currently no active changes to tax laws for Maryland.
