GAITHERSBURG, MD, November 30, 2020 – After a 42-year career and 36 years since founding DeLeon & Stang, Co-Founding Partner Allen DeLeon, CPA, PFS, CITP is set to retire December 31, 2020. Upon his retirement, DeLeon will start a new tradition at DeLeon & Stang by making the inaugural endowment to the DeLeon & Stang Foundation.

“It is hard to express how quickly the time has flown by since 1984,” said Allen. “The growth and success of DeLeon & Stang would not have been possible without our dedicated staff. To our clients, it has been my life’s work to serve you and with the highest level of professional service that I could.”

Allen DeLeon started DeLeon & Stang with Richard Stang in 1984, working part-time out of Al’s basement. By 1991, Al and Rich had begun working full time for the firm and moved to their first official office on One Bank Street, Gaithersburg. The two grew DeLeon & Stang into the CPA and business advisory firm with 3 locations in the DC Metro area and over 50 employees. Over the past year, the firm has been implementing a succession plan naming Brad Hoffman, CPA, the firm’s new Co-Managing Partner alongside Richard Stang, CPA, ABV, PFS.

During his career as a leading CPA, Allen was elected to serve as the Chairman of the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA), and Chair of the MACPA Legislative Executive Committee. He  also served for 12 years as an AICPA council member, served for five years on the AICPA Technical Issues Committee, and has served on boards for multiple non-profit organizations. His legacy of service continues as he will be the first contributor to the new DeLeon & Stang Foundation, something he has been dedicated to starting for some time, which focuses on supporting local charitable organizations and causes.

“At the heart of our values at DeLeon & Stang is community service,” said Allen. “Serving on many professional and non-profit organization Boards and committees over the years, I quickly learned the value of giving back. Today our entire staff are known for their contributions to many charities and worthy organizations. They don’t do it for recognition but for service. The new DeLeon & Stang Foundation will continue this tradition.”

For Allen, retirement isn’t the end. It’s the next step in a long-developed plan. After his retirement, he will work with DeLeon & Stang as a consultant and continue serving on the board at Holy Cross Health Foundation, PIC MC Foundation, at Montgomery College. This continues the succession plan which named Brad Hoffman, CPA, the firm’s new Co-Managing Partner, in 2019. He will work alongside Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner Richard Stang, CPA, ABV, PFS to continue to expand the company that Allen & Richard humbly started in a basement.

“I would like to express my thanks to my business partner Rich whose leadership and friendship has been invaluable to me and to the success of DeLeon & Stang. I am confident that he and Brad will lead D&S for the next 36 years and beyond!”

In addition to serving as a consultant for DeLeon & Stang and on the boards of other organizations, Allen is looking forward to traveling, playing golf and spending quality time with his family. He also plans to stay involved with Maryland legislative matters and is looking forward to this next chapter after retirement.
