From Tax Intern to Senior Accountant
When Samantha Petrides joined DeLeon & Stang as a Tax Intern in early 2022, she was looking for more than just experience—she wanted a place where she could build a strong foundation in tax, learn from experienced professionals, and grow her career in public accounting.
Originally from Frederick, Maryland and now based in Aspers, Pennsylvania, Samantha quickly found opportunities to do exactly that.
Over the past four years, she has grown from Tax Intern to Senior Accountant, expanding her technical expertise and taking on greater responsibility across client service, tax planning, and team development.
Starting a Career in Public Accounting
Samantha's career at D&S began with preparing individual tax returns and supporting client engagements during busy tax seasons. As her knowledge grew, so did her responsibilities.
Today, Samantha works with both business and individual clients, providing tax compliance, planning, and consulting support throughout the year.
“I started with individual tax return preparation and gradually expanded into business tax work, review responsibilities, and supporting newer staff,” Samantha said. “That progression has helped me grow not just technically, but also in how I support both clients and the team.”
Growing Into a Leadership Role
As a Senior Accountant, Samantha's role extends well beyond tax return preparation.
She helps manage workflows, serves as a key point of contact for clients, prepares and reviews business and individual tax returns, and provides year-round tax planning support.
Mentoring newer staff has become one of the most rewarding parts of her role.
"I’m always happy to be a resource for newer staff, helping answer questions, and supporting any team members interested in gaining more experience with business tax work,” Samantha said.
Making an Impact Beyond Client Work
Throughout her time at D&S, Samantha has also contributed to improving internal processes that benefit both clients and the firm.
She helped create a more consistent and standardized process to business tax planning, supporting greater efficiency and a more seamless experience for clients.
Earning a CPA While Working in Public Accounting
A significant milestone in Samantha's journey was earning her CPA license within her first two years at DeLeon & Stang.
Balancing exam preparation with client responsibilities can be challenging, but Samantha says the support she received from the firm made a meaningful difference.
“DeLeon & Stang really supported me throughout my CPA journey,” Samantha said. “They provided study resources, flexibility, and consistent encouragement along the way. I always felt like the firm was invested in and rooting for my success. The CPA bonus program also made it feel like my hard work was truly recognized and celebrated.”
Looking Ahead
When reflecting on her career growth, she credits the people and culture at D&S as one of the biggest factors in her success.
She describes a workplace where leadership is approachable, colleagues are always supportive, and professional development is encouraged at every stage of a career. Through mentorship, hands-on learning, continuing professional education (CPE) opportunities, she has continued to expand her skills and take on new challenges with confidence.
As she looks to the future, she hopes to deepen her expertise in tax planning, strengthen client relationships, and remain a trusted resource for clients and colleagues alike.
Her journey from Tax Intern to Senior Accountant reflects what is possible when talented professionals are given the opportunity, support, and encouragement to grow.
At DeLeon & Stang, that investment in people continues to be one of the firm's greatest strengths.
